Today I taught mark making with a group of adults, most of whom haven't drawn anything since being at school. The below images were produced by responding to an object with their eyes shut. Their lack of inhibition was a pleasure to see and resulted in some great drawings.

I recently received my copy of LOAf and it's jam packed with comic loveliness! You can see my work in there alongside comics by Becky Palmer, Daisy Hirst, Alexis Deacon, Ben Parker, Natalie Blofield and lots more. I'll post some images soon but in the mean time, you can get your copy on Etsy.

For those of you that don't know, I have the pleasure of teaching illustration on the Art and Design Foundation course at Chesterfield College. I normally reserve this blog for my own work, but recently I've acquired a new group of students who really are a uniquely motivated and inspiring bunch. Anyway, this is a taste of what they got up to in their first week... watch this space.

I spent an hour last week drawing figures and portraits with light. It creates lovely expressive drawings and i'm wondering if there is a way to incorporate them in to my illustrations?

I'm super excited to have been asked to contribute to Loaf Magazine, a comics zine for 9 - 12 year olds. Thing is, they need funding to get this wonderful project up and running. If you can spare a small amount of cash, you will receive goodies in return!

I've been trying to find new ways of working a little quicker. It wasn't any quicker, but I'm pleased with the colours. I'm looking forward to spending more time in the print room this summer.

Searle Award for Creativity 2012 Exhibition
Date: 21 March - 12 April 2012
Ruskin Gallery, Cambridge School of Art,
The annual Searle Award for Creativity recognises excellence in any artistic discipline and is open to all students in Cambridge School of Art.
Ronald established this annual award to encourage creativity among Anglia Ruskin students and the bronze trophy, the ‘Flying Pen’, is based on one of his drawings. Each year a theme is chosen with particular relevance to his life and work, and this year the competition has been based on migration.

I've been shortlisted for the Ronald Searle Award for Creativity 2012! Yay!
My entry was a series of editorial illustrations called ‘The Lost Children’. Post war Britain saw more than 150,000 children in care, some as young as three shipped to a ‘better life’ in Canada, New Zealand and Australia. ‘The Lost Children’ chronicles the journey of these child migrants.
Below are three of the illustrations from the final set. You can see the full set here on my Facebook page.
We made the Cambridge News! Great to have my whale image printed as part of the article too! It's a little difficult to read on the image so here's a link to the article online:
